AVS 17: KENYA & ZANZIBAR

Itinerery: Samburu (2 nights) ~ Highlands (1 night) ~ Nakuru (1 night) ~ Mara (3 nights)

This is the complete voyage of discovery to all of Kenya's major and amazingly different parks. Samburu's desert, the Highlands' lush forests, Lake Nakuru with its encircling pink ribbon of hundreds of thousands of flamingoes and the Masai Mara, northern range of the Great Migration - do it all in these 8 days. Guaranteed to entrance, enthrall - and make you want to return.

Day 1 Samburu Game reserve
Your safari starts with the drive to Samburu National Park where you will be taken to your Lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon you will enjoy your first private game drive in this reserve famous for it's gray zebra, reticulated giraffe, somali ostrich, hornbills and many leopards. You will return to the Lodge in time for dinner and overnight at the Sarova Shaba Lodge or similar (L) (D)
Day 2 Samburu Game reserve
A full day of game viewing in Samburu. Your Driver/Guide knows how to find the elusive species and, being in constant contact with other safari drivers, will learn where special sightings are happening and will often make a beeline there. Overnight in Samburu lodge, Shaba or similar . (B) (L) (D)

Day 3 The Aberdares
After breakfast you drive to the Highlands. Travelers will arrive at the Mountain Lodge in time for lunch. Adventurers and Explorers will have lunch at the Aberdare Country Club before being transferred to The Ark. In the afternoon you will enjoy your first experiences with the game in the area. If you are staying at the Mountain Lodge (Traveler Level) you will have your choice of several nature walks and other activities such as a visit to the Mau Mau caves. Dinner and overnight. (LD) One of the great features of both the Mountain Lodge and The Ark is the overnight game viewing. Throughout the day, but mostly in the evening and night, many of the wild animals come to the waterhole. Many guests stay up all night enjoying the comfortable lounges, balconies and other viewing areas including the underground (and very close up) photography bunker. Others prefer to sleep, but are primed for the bell in their room which is rung to alert them to special happenings at the waterhole. (B) (L) (D)

Day 4 Lake Nakuru National Park
After breakfast you will depart across the Kenya Highlands to Lake Nakuru in time for lunch. In the afternoon you will enjoy a game drive in the Park where you will view millions of flamingoes. There are chances of seeing rhinos as this Park is also a rhino sanctuary. Overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge or Sarova Lion Hill lodge. (B) (L) (D)

Day 5 Masai Mara Game Reserve
After breakfast you will start on your way to Masai Mara. Traveling by Road, the entire day will be fascinating as you drive into the Great Rift Valley on your way to Masai Mara. A picnic lunch will be provided and your Driver/Guide will make several stops along the way at various places of interest. Once in Masai Mara you will enjoy a game drive on your way to your Lodge. If you have the Air Option, you will drive to Nairobi and then board a to Masai Mara and be at your Lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon you will enjoy your first fascinating game drive in Masai Mara Simba lodge or similar. (B) (L) (D)

Day 6 Masai Mara Game Reserve
A fascinating full day game drive (with a picnic lunch) in the awesome Masai Mara. Depending on the time of year you can expect to see lions, elephants, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, cheetah, leopards, hippos, rhinos, antelopes, eagles and many birds and other species. As in Samburu your Driver/Guide will be in contact with other safari drivers and will amaze you with his skill at locating the hidden animals. Overnight in Masai Mara Simba lodge or similar . Day 7 Masai Mara Game Reserve
Another full day game drive (with a picnic lunch) in Masai Mara. Your Driver/Guide, having consulted overnight with the other Driver/Guides will head out in whatever direction will bring you to animals you haven't yet seen, including the amazing hippo pools. Overnight in Masai Mara Simba lodge or similar. (B) (L) (D)

Day 8 Departure
One final morning game drive before leaving for Nairobi. A picnic lunch will be taken along , upon arrival in Nairobi you will be taken either to the airport for your departing flight or to your hotel for an overnight stay. If you will be staying the night, transfers to the airport the next day are included. (B) (L)

Zanzibar Extension Optional
Optional Zanzibar Cultural tour to stone town and beach holiday,for 4nights/5days Cultural Zanzibar

Day 9 Arrive at Zanzibar harbour or airport and transfer to a Stone Town Hotel. Overnight in Stone Town.

Day 10 Depart from the hotel for a visit of the Historical Town. Lunch at the Old Arab Fort. Afternoon at leisure. 1700 Depart from the hotel for a sunset cruise along Stone Town waterfront. Stop at Forodhani gardens for a glance of the evening life. Dinner at Overnight in Stone Town.

Day 11 Depart from the Hotel and transfer to Kizimbani Village. Tour of the village farms of vegetables and Spices. Afterwards drive to the hotel on the beach. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 12 Full day at leisure at the beach hotel with dinner and overnight.

Day 13 After breakfast transfer to the apt for flight back home.

NB Please provide us with your dates and flight details so that we can arrange to pick you at the Jomo Kenyatta International airport on your day of arrival. Extra night in Nairobi at additional cost of USD 100 Per person.
